Do your nephews or neices wanna share their feelings of respect with their grand grandma in a way no one will ever forget?  Do your friends who were in your wedding have that kind of bond beyond those of traditional matrimony?  Does your meetup group have the desire to affirm their advocacies to a cause or vision?  Would someone you know with depression benefit from musical therapy and chant?  Do you seek a way to express condolence to someone dealing with bereavment.

I suspect differences in how employers and schools address holidays like those of Muslims, Hindus, Afrikkan religions, personal ritualistic practices of subscribers to schools of thought or religion religions not of main stream. 

I think, if anything, all employees should be given optional 'paid' holidays per year at their personal discretion of specific days.  Any thing otherwise is discrimatory.
