When a company does not discriminate on basis of race, gender, or religion, they shouldn't be allowed to ask it. Possible exceptions include market research efforts.

Should religious holidays be recognized by state or federal governments discriminantly?

I suspect differences in how employers and schools address holidays like those of Muslims, Hindus, Afrikkan religions, personal ritualistic practices of subscribers to schools of thought or religion religions not of main stream.

I think, if anything, all employees should be given optional 'paid' holidays per year at their personal discretion of specific days. Any thing otherwise is discrimatory.
